How to Take a TV Off a Wall Mount
Taking a TV off a wall mount can be a challenge, flat-screen LED TV’s weigh between 10 and 55 pounds, depending on their size. If you have a heavy flat-screen TV, you’ll want to make sure you are two people taking it down.
If you have an Articulating/Full Motion TV wall mount bracket picture like below, it will be easier to remove since you have visibility of the back of the TV.
The more complicated type of mount to remove is the fixed TV wall mount or tilt TV wall mount.
The easiest to Remove and move around which is a TV installed without drilling any hole is the Column TV Mount also know as the Pillar TV Mount. The Column mount is the best mount if you have a circular pillar or a square column.
In this article, I am going to emphasis on 3 common types of wall mount locking mechanisms which you want to understand about before removing your TV.
Note – Before starting, try to remove all cords attached to the TV. Some cords are not removable till the locking mechanism explained below is removed.
Type 1 Locking Mechanism – Screw type
For this type of bracket, you will need a long screwdriver of at least 12″ (buy on Amazon.com or Amazon.ca) and a flash light to be able to find the screw head from the bottom of the TV. Once you have located it, unscrew both of the screws till you are able to pull out the bottom of the TV away from the wall. Once you have pulled the bottom part of the TV away from the wall, its time to unhook it from the wall part of the bracket. Please see picture below.
Type 2 Locking Mechanism- Pull String Type
The pull string technology method comes with most newer TV mounts and is easier to remove. Instead of a screw, the pull string is attached to a latch which when pulled releases the bottom of the TV from being latched to the wall mount. Carefully try to find the two pieces of string from the back of the TV bottom. Pull it hard and you will hear a click sound, subsequently the bottom of the TV will pop further away from the wall. Pull the bottom of the TV away from the wall, remove all cords attached to the TV and then unhook the TV from the wall mount.

Type 3 Locking Mechanism – Horizontal Locking Bar.
The horizontal locking bar is used in mostly commercial space. Instead of the screw and pull string which is accessible vertically at the bottom of the TV, the bar lock is accessible from the sides, so look out in the side of the TV for a long bar which goes through form left to the right. It can be pulled horizontally out one way only, so try from both sides and Bob is your uncle. See picture below, the bar is where the padlock is.
